Stan Wonn
Chair
Before he became a board member in May 2009, Stan Wonn had logged more than 1,000 miles as a volunteer driver – and he only began driving in December 2008! He and his wife are also member-riders and use ITNBluegrass™ to get to and from the airport.
Mr. Wonn retired from Ashland (Oil), Inc. after 45 years of service during which he worked in many IT positions. These included computer operator and programmer, then Manager of Computer Operations, Executive Assistant to the VP of Information Technology and Manager of Global Network and Computing Information Security. Following the events of September 11, 2001, Mr. Wonn was one of just a few corporate security officers who participated in the development of the US Homeland Security Department.
Besides ITNBluegrass™, Mr. Wonn has volunteered for many organizations over the years, including serving three years as chair of the Fayette Co. Adult and Community Education Board and coaching Little League baseball for 33 years. He says he enjoys volunteering because he "has a sense that we should all contribute to making things better, especially while we are still physically capable." He goes on to say that he appreciates the difficulties facing those who have given up driving and enjoys helping them overcome some of those difficulties.
James Knoblett
Treasurer
James (Jim) Knoblett brings a wealth of experience to his role on the ITNBluegrass™ Board of Directors. Jim has a doctorate in accounting from the University of Washington with specialties in quantitative methods, economics, and management. He is also a CPA and a Certified Management Accountant. Prior to coming to Kentucky, he had taught at three other universities.
Jim has served as a consultant to several major corporations, accounting firms, and local and state governments as well as other educational institutions. An avid birder with a life list of over 600 birds, he and his wife, Carole, have traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Central, and South America. Jim is well aware of the importance of transportation for older people and believes that his involvement with ITNBluegrass™ contributes to the solution in his community.
Chandra Jarboe
Secretary
Like her husband, Joe, Chandra Jarboe is a wonderful addition to the board. While he served in the military, Chandra was the Protocol Assistant to the Ambassador at the US Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia. She has told us many interesting stories from their time there! In addition, she has worked in various nursing positions including head nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and instructor of cardiology and urology at St. Francis Xavier School.
Chandra has extensive volunteer experience including instructor of pre-natal classes at the United States Air Force Academy Hospital and school clinic volunteer at several schools, including Pattimura Elementary School in Jakarta, Indonesia.
She became interested in ITNBluegrass™ upon hearing Laura Dake speak at a Support Sight meeting. According to Chandra, “ITN has returned to me a measure of independence that I had lost due to visual impairment...it is my hope that my long time experience in various nursing venues will be an asset to ITN in its quest to provide a quality service to this community.” As a member rider of ITN, Chandra offers valuable, practical advice to the organization.
Donna Baker
Board Member
Donna retired from Lexmark International (a printer manufacturer) in 2000 after 34 years of service, the majority of them in management, including Selectric typewriter manufacturing, electronic board assembly, production control for printer manufacturing and transitioning of warranty and service parts operations from IBM to Lexmark during its leveraged buyout in 1991. Most recently she served as manager of Lexmark's Worldwide Service Parts Operations, which included engineering support, forecasting, pricing, distribution, inventory management and customer sales for all service parts.
Even though Donna is retired, she is in no way retiring! She is a professional drag racing enthusiast and at one time used to drag race herself. She also displays her 1948 red Ford pickup "street rod" at car shows. Donna says that she loves solving problems, enjoys giving back to her community and "likes older people even better than babies," so ITN is a great fit for her!
Gail Bennett
Board Member
Gail Bennett joined WUKY, the University of Kentucky's public radio station, in 1986 as its Marketing Development Director. She has successfully developed the station’s fundraising programs, signature events and marketing strategies. In addition to winning numerous awards for her work and campaigns, she is very involved in the community and has served on many boards throughout her career.
Sue Weant introduced Gail to ITNBluegrass™ and asked her to serve on the board. She gladly accepted the invitation because she knew from firsthand experience the challenges of transportation for the elderly and people with disabilities.
Joe Jarboe
Board Member
Joe Jarboe's diverse work experience and community involvement make him the perfect fit for the ITNBluegrass™ board! Before he retired, Joe was a weapon systems cost analyst and a general contractor (home building) in Scott County. Prior to civilian life, Joe served for 27 years as an officer in the United States Air Force. During his military career, he logged over 5,000 flight hours, worked in the US Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, and obtained the rank of colonel.
Joe has been very involved in the community, serving as the Commissioner of the Kentucky Airport Zoning Commission, president of St. John School Committee, and board member of the Kentucky League for Education Alternatives.
He became interested in ITNBluegrass™ at a Macular Degeneration Support Sight meeting that he attended with his wife, Chandra. He believes that ITN is worthwhile “because it provides a much needed service to the community. And at the same time it is timely, dignified, respectful, and 24/7.” From helping with mailings to volunteer driving every Tuesday and Thursday, Joe's commitment to the future of ITNBluegrass™ is obvious.
Nancy Johnson
Board Member
Nancy Johnson joined the management faculty in the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky in 1986 after earning her Ph.D. at the University of Kansas. Her specialty is in industrial relations and human resource management. She has been serving as the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs for the Gatton College since 2006. She thoroughly enjoys working with undergraduate students but was looking for an opportunity to expand her involvement in the community when she learned about ITNBluegrass. With aging parents that live 600 miles away, she recognizes the importance and challenges of transportation in maintaining the independence and quality of seniors’ lives.
Roger Parry
Board Member
A licensed nursing home administrator for more than thirty-five years, Roger has worked with elders in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and retirement communities. In 1969, Roger opened and operated Mayfair Manor, a 98-bed skilled nursing facility in Lexington, and in 1985, opened and managed Mayfair Village, a retirement apartment community in the same city. Director positions at two church-affiliated continuing care retirement communities later took him to North Carolina and Virginia, but he is back in Kentucky and until recently, served as interim administrator of Cambridge Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lexington. Other activities through the years include delivering Meals on Wheels and building homes for elders through Habitat for Humanity.
Sue Weant
Board Member
Sue is co-owner of RidgeWood, Ltd, a successful financial service business, which she and another woman founded in 1986. Previously, Sue held various positions ranging from second grade teacher to member of the President's Committee on Hiring the Handicapped. She has also volunteered in numerous capacities including serving as the Field Representative in Kentucky for Mothers and Others for a Livable Planet, as the Treasurer of the Florence Crittenton Home for unwed mothers, and on the Advisory Board for the Lexington Public Library.
Through her business, Sue has helped elderly individuals manage their finances. She also sits on the board at a retirement home. She found out about ITNBluegrass™ when her business was contacted to keep books for the organization. She decided to become involved because she knew that transportation for the elderly "is the one gap in our community that needs to be filled."
